Building the Sustainable Citizen: Highlights from Our Live Session with Schindler India, Bengaluru

When we talk about corporate sustainability, the conversation often gravitates toward massive ESG mandates, supply chain overhauls, and carbon reporting. But recently, I had the privilege of zooming in on the most crucial element of any green initiative: the individual.

We were honored to deliver a 90-minute onsite masterclass to an engaged audience of over 60 professionals at Schindler India. Rather than lecturing on corporate policy, the goal in the room was much more personal: to provoke thought, challenge our daily habits, and explore how everyday choices at home shape the environments we work in.

Here is a look at what we covered and the core frameworks we explored from my book, Sustainability Simplified.

1. Progress Over Perfection:

We opened the session by relieving the pressure of being perfectly “green.” The reality is that the planet doesn’t need a handful of people practicing zero-waste living perfectly; it needs millions of us taking simple, sincere, and consistent actions every day. We framed our daily choices through the concept of the “Earth Ledger,” recognizing how our personal habits are either deposits or withdrawals from our shared resources.

2. Reclaiming Intergenerational Wisdom:

One of the most energetic moments of the masterclass was looking back to move forward. We discussed how the “Circular Economy” isn’t just a modern corporate buzzword; it’s the way our grandparents naturally lived.

Opening the floor to the room, the team shared their own “Grandma’s Hacks” the brilliant, everyday ways their families reused items, repurposed water, and eliminated waste long before it was considered an environmental movement. Hearing these stories exchanged live was a powerful reminder that sustainable living is already in our DNA.

3. The “Everywhere” Citizen:

A sustainable mindset doesn’t clock out when you leave the house. We explored the direct crossover between personal accountability and professional impact. When an individual adopts mindful habits at home, whether it’s proper waste segregation, energy conservation, or mindful consumption, they naturally bring that awareness into their corporate facilities. A greener operational floor starts with an empowered individual.

Empowering Families Beyond the Event:

Education should never stop when participants walk out the doors. As part of PriTerra’s commitment to making climate education accessible, every attendee was provided with free digital access to Sustainability Simplified. I hope the 30-day actionable planners in the book will help spark the same conversations around their dinner tables at home.

A Culture of Action:

A massive thank you to the organizers and the entire team at Schindler India who hosted me and brought such incredible energy to the room. It is deeply inspiring to engage face-to-face with professionals who are genuinely eager to build a culture of everyday, actionable sustainability.

Real change starts with everyday habits. Let’s keep building them together.
